About The Aged Butterfly

I’m Alison Tinlin and I am a Lifestyle Blogger, and Mature Student based in Glasgow.

I’m just about to turn 50, and I have just embarked on a 3 Year course to complete my BA (Hons) Open Degree: Social Sciences.

I’ve been married for 18 years, and have a daughter just embarking on her own College journey, and a son midway through Secondary school.

My journey so far in life has been to work in the "helping" professions being a Nurse for 14 years, and working for 12 years as part of the Wedding Industry.

I’m embarking on this college course as I am passionate about social justice.

The last few years have seen so much upheaval and a deterioration of the rights of women, the disabled, the black community and also LGBTQ communities and the elderly, and that’s not the world I want my kids to grow up in.

I hope to learn through this course how to work in an effective way to affect change with aspirations to potentially work in local Government, a charity or in a Humanitarian position on completion of my studies.

I have particular interest in working in Disability rights.

Getting a bit more personal this past year I’ve been walking a lot to improve my health and fitness and control those lovely midlife curves.

This has also been a great way to clear the cobwebs away, and dream up my next big adventure.

I love walks in the countryside too, and feeling at one with nature, and you'll often find me in a National Trust garden with my camera chasing after butterflies.

When I have some downtime I love to sketch, and read a good book, and of an evening I can most often be found watching medical dramas.

I am also passionate about love travel and exploring having been to Italy, Greece, Cyprus, the USA, and Australia, but there is so much more of the world, and even the UK that I want to discover, and hope to soon.

The Aged Butterfly is a celebration of midlife and beyond, where I embrace this stage in my life with its highs and lows, pitfalls and triumphs.

Its going to be an evolving project to share my own journey as I venture back into Higher Education, as well as to create a space to encourage, support and inspire others navigating this path.

The site will feature sections on Inspiration & Empowerment, Relationships, Style, Travel and Wellness.
